Empowering Accessibility: The Developer’s Guide to Visually Hidden Text
Imagine a web where everyone can access and enjoy your content. As responsible developers, we must ensure this vision becomes a reality. At the same time, I probably don’t need to convince you that we developers alone cannot build accessible websites. For example, we usually cannot change brand colors to fix color contrast issues, modify content to be more accessible and understandable, or control third-party integrations that may not consider accessibility. Accessibility is often a team sport, but some aspects fall squarely into the realm of developers, and one of those aspects is visually hidden text.
When writing markup, developers can use various techniques to add additional text or programmatically associate text so that visually apparent associations are communicated to assistive technology.
In this session, we will cover the pros and cons of the following techniques:
* Text hidden with CSS
* aria-label and aria-labelledby
* aria-describedby
* aria-live regions
This session is ideal for developers of all kinds and levels. Attendees will leave with practical skills and insights to help make their websites more accessible. Expect hands-on demonstrations and interactive elements to ensure you can apply these techniques effectively.
Join us to gain practical skills and insights to help you make your websites more accessible.
